How we may share your information

Credit Reference Agency – their role
4.1 When you make an application for any of our products or services with us we will carry out a search with one or more Credit Reference Agency (CRA). We will use the personal information you have supplied to us and the CRA will provide us with information about you. We shall only perform a “soft” search for your details which is not visible to other lenders so even if you are declined at this stage it won’t be reflected on your credit file.4.2 The CRA will provide a credit scoring computation and if based on this score, we can proceed with your application we will pass your information onto normally two or three suitable lenders who will carry out a hard search on your credit file.

4.3 CRA’s hold both public and credit account data about you. Public information includes your name, date of birth, address and previous addresses, whether you are on the electoral roll, any county court judgments against you and whether you have been declared bankrupt. Whilst your account information is shared by businesses such as the banks, building societies, car loan firms and mobile phone companies. This data includes credit applications (attempts you have made to get credit, whether they were successful), lenders you have dealt with, credit limits you have and whether you have made payments correctly and on time. It will also show details of credit card balances and repayments and sometimes bank account balances.

4.4 Carrying out a hard search will allow the lenders to calculate the level of risk of providing credit to you based on the information obtained. Such searches will be recorded on your credit file leaving a footprint and this allows other lenders and organisations to see when and how many times your credit information has been accessed.

4.5 To verify your identity, prevent crime and assist in the recovery of debt, we may exchange information from time to time with fraud prevention agencies (including CIFAS), debt recovery agencies, and other relevant organizations including other lenders.

Third-party lenders
4.6 We may share your information with other third-party lenders (including companies whose products or services are not included on the Site) if your application is declined by all available lenders. This will enable you to be considered for alternative loan options and financial products which are more suited to your circumstances. These third parties may carry out further searches against you of credit reference agencies for the purposes of assessing your credit score and any such searches will be recorded on your credit file. See Credit Reference Agencies section above for details of these searches.
