New photocard driving licence

The DVLA have introduced a new style photocard driving licence from February 2014.

The new photocard driving licence has a new design and includes many new security features aimed at fighting against fraud. New holographs, raised surface patterns and an Optical Variable Ink (OVI – this is used on many modern day banknotes. It uses 2 different colour inks and changes colour depending on the angle you look at it).

Existing holders of current style valid driving licences will not need to replace them. They will be replaced as and when they expire or lost and replaced.
